The royal basilica of Saint-Denis belonged to a prosperous and powerful abbey during the Middle Ages and was the first monumental masterpiece of gothic art. The royal necropolis contains tombs of French kings with remarkable funerary sculpture dating from 12th to 16th centuries (Dagobert, Pépin le Bref, François I, Catherine de Médicis, etc.).

1 April to 30 September: Monday-Saturday 10am-6:15pm, Sunday 12 noon-6.15pm. 1 October to 31 March: Monday-Saturday 10am-5.15pm, Sunday 12 noon to 5.15pm.
The church is open from 8am to 7pm in summer and from 8am to 5pm in winter.
Sunday mass: 8.30am, 10am and 6.30pm. Weekday masses: Wednesday 9am; Thursday 8.30am; Friday 9am.

Free guided tour with the basilica ticket. Every day in French at 11.15am and 3pm, Sunday 12.15pm and 3pm. For other times and languages, please phone for details.
