Centre Georges Pompidou Subscriber

The Pompidou Centre, dedicated to modern and contemporary creation, sits right in the heart of the city. It brings together ... the largest collection of modern art in Europe, a library, cinemas, show venues, a musical research institute, activities areas, a café and a restaurant, Le George, perched on the top floor and enjoying a great view over the rooftops of Paris.
Also the Atelier Brancusi presents the universe and major works of the eponymous 20th-century sculptor.
The external architecture of the building, designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, is equally famous for its daring and ultra-modern appearance, largely due to the supporting structure composed of glass, metal girders, vivid colours and escalators inside transparent caterpillar-shaped tubes.

The architecture of the Georges Pompidou Centre, which marked the 1970s with its high tech appearance, provided a daring contrast to the old traditional aspect of the Beaubourg area. (Architects: Piano Rodgers 1977 and Piano-Bodin 1997-2000). This Mecca of modern and contemporary culture houses the National Museum of Modern Art/Industrial Design centre, public information library open to all (BPI), exhibition galleries, cinemas, shows and concert halls and a contemporary music research centre (IRCAM). One floor of the National Museum of Modern Art is currently under renovation. The two floors are due to open fully again in February 2007. In the meantime the museum places part of its collection on display from the viewpoint of the relationship between visual arts and cinema, entitled "Le mouvement des images".
