La Bergerie Nationale
A flock of sheep just outside Paris? No, we’re not kidding! A few historical details might be pertinent here! The Bergerie Nationale in Rambouillet was built in 1785 at the behest of Louis XVI to be an experimental agricultural site and to farm sheep imported from Spain which ultimately gave rise to the Rambouillet Merinos... Nowadays around 600 ewes and rams including the famous Rambouillet Merinos live on this teaching farm peacefully in the company of cows, hens, horses and a variety of other animals. A great opportunity for a family outing where you can stroll from cowshed to stable to sheepfold to admire the animals and at the same time discover the different professions and activities on the farm. And while you’re there, make the most of your visit to the Rambouillet estate and its fauna and flora by taking a ride on a horse-drawn carriage through this magnificent park.
