Académie du Spectacle Equestre (equestrian shows)
The name Bartabas conjures up a tradition of superb shows in which equestrian skills combine with modern arts. Bartabas is also associated with the Théâtre Equestre Zingaro in Aubervilliers, which he founded and has expertly managed for many years... This talented horseman’s long-felt need to pass on skills through advanced training in the art of equestrian display was finally satisfied in 2003, when the very first Equestrian Show Academy, led by Bartabas himself, was set up in the prestigious stables of the Palace of Versailles, thereby restoring these venerable late-17th century buildings, constructed by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart, to their original purpose. The well-known director recruits experienced riders from all over the world and trains them daily in the time-honoured techniques of dressage while introducing them to equestrian performance arts - music, dance and song - all in perpetual movement. The school is open to visits, reflecting Bartabas’ desire to give the general public access to work within the ring. Visitors can admire the skills of some 30 horses, from Lusitanian breeds and Argentine criollos to throughbred Arab horses and Sorayas at the “Matinales des Ecuyers”. These morning shows feature 13 academy students and their mounts performing classic equestrian figures to music. Another equestrian show choreographed by Bartabas, 'La Reprise Musicale opus 2006', with afternoon and night-time performances, shows the results of students’ training in a procession with song recitals, baroque music, equestrian improvisation and artistic fencing displays. A visit to the stables, now restored to their former glory, is possible at the end of the training session or show. S.C-.R. photo © Cyrille Weiner For more details click here |
